NRA Basic Pistol Course

NRA Basic Pistol Course and Prep for the Firearms Safety Certificate (FSC), which may be taken after completion of the course.

Course Description

This 8-hour National Rifle Association (NRA) Accredited course will introduce the student to the basics of safe handgun handling and includes both classroom and range instruction, firearm rental (.22 caliber) basic range gear, ammunition (25 rounds of .22 caliber), target, range fee, and NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Student Packet. Classroom discussion and practical hands-on application will provide you with the basic skills needed for the Firearms Safety Certificate (FSC), necessary for the purchase of a firearm in the State of California.

This course is taught by one of our female instructors, Ani De La Cerda. 

Who Should Take this Course?

Anyone wishing to purchase a firearm in the State of California, or anyone wishing to develop basic safe firearm handling and shooting techniques, and those wanting to continue their education to obtain a Concealed Carry Permit (CCW)

Course Requirements

Arrive with the attitude necessary to learn. We can deal with most physical disabilities.

What You Should Know

  1. You should come wearing comfortable clothing similar to what you would wear on a hike. Please no tank tops, V-necks, or low-cut shirts.
  2. Wear flat shoes or boots. Please no high heels, flip flops, open-toed shoes, or pumps.
  3. You should have closely-trimmed nails to ensure a safe and proper grip of the firearm. (Acrylics are strongly discouraged).
  4. If you wear glasses, bring them.
  5. Long hair must be pulled back away from the face in a ponytail or placed in a hat.
  6. If you have a firearm that you'd prefer to shoot, please bring it UNLOADED in a LOCKED CONTAINER. Please bring at least 25 rounds of ammunition for your firearm.  Depending on the caliber, we may have it available for purchase (by the box (50ct)).  Do not bring rifles or shotguns! This is a pistol course only.
  7. We will take a break every 50 minutes and will have time for lunch before heading to the range, or you may choose to bring a lunch. Snacks and drinks in the classroom are permit-able.
  8. An optional Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) Test can be taken after class for an additional $25 to get you ready to purchase your first firearm. FSC’s are valid for 5 years.
